Welcome to Alexander First School and Foundation Stage
Alexander First School has been at the heart of the local Broom Farm community since its creation in 1972. More than forty years later, and having educated many thousands of children from the surrounding area, our school continues to serve both the local and wider communities.
The school is set within extensive greenery, including our own woodlands and pond. We are proud of our modern and traditional school building. There are five classrooms, a Nurture room, library, large hall and kitchen (serving delicious hot meals!). Our extensive outside space includes two playgrounds, vast playing fields, two gazebos, a trim trail and a 'wild' forest school area.
As a smaller school we have a distinctive ‘village’ atmosphere. Our class sizes are significantly smaller than most schools and we pride ourselves on knowing all families and pupils on an individual basis. We have close links with the Household Cavalry and Coldstream Guards residing on the Broom Farm Estate, but children also travel from Slough, Maidenhead and other surrounding areas to attend Alexander First School.
We cater for children from 3 years old (in our purpose built Foundation Stage) up to 9 years of age in Year 4. Our school vision and aim is to work closely with families and pupils to deliver a curriculum and school experience which instils a passion and lifelong enthusiasm for learning. As noted by Ofsted (October 2017), we have a ‘shared determination to help every pupil to achieve their very best’.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) is a cornerstone of our school. STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. Ofsted (October 2017) noted that Alexander First School’s ‘mathematics ‘mastery’ curriculum enables staff to ensure that pupils who join the school mid-year fill the gaps in their learning quickly, while others whose learning is more secure are challenged to deepen their understanding.’
Having activities that show real-life implications of STEM can pull together the ideas presented in school with everyday life. Children can see that what they are learning now is pertinent to their future and the future of the whole world.
Alexander First School is a feeder school to a number of ‘good’ Windsor, Slough and Maidenhead schools such as Dedworth Middle, Trevelyan and St. Edwards. We are also within close proximity to Holyport College.
The Governing Body actively supports the school, with parents’ voice actively contributing towards the school’s development.
